Validate your XML, see the line and column of the error, and pretty-print or minify it.

Processed on your device: your file never leaves your computer

Up to 50 files, 50 MB max each.

What XML formatter and validator does

The XML formatter checks that the document is well-formed (closed tags, quoted attributes) and rewrites it indented or minified. Comments, CDATA sections, attributes and references like & are kept as they were. If there is an error, it shows the line and column.

Limits

  • Up to 50 files at a time, up to 50 MB each.
  • With Pro: up to 500 files per batch.
  • A job that takes longer than 2 minutes is stopped so it doesn't freeze your device.
  • Processed in your browser: your files are never uploaded to a server.

Frequently asked questions

Which errors does it find?

Unclosed or badly nested tags, repeated or unquoted attributes, and characters that aren't allowed. It is a well-formedness check: it does not validate against an XSD or DTD schema.

Is anything lost when formatting?

Whitespace between tags is replaced by the new indentation, and the DOCTYPE declaration is left out. Content, comments and CDATA are kept.

Is it safe with unknown files?

Yes. Documents that declare entities (the way in for XXE attacks) are refused with a warning, and nothing is fetched from the internet.
