Up to 50 files, 50 MB max each.

What JSON formatter and validator does

The JSON formatter checks that your JSON is valid and, if it is, rewrites it indented with 2 or 4 spaces or tabs, or minifies it into a single line to save space. If there is an error, it tells you the line and column, for example an extra comma before a closing brace. It can also sort keys alphabetically to compare files.

Limits

  • Up to 50 files at a time, up to 50 MB each.
  • With Pro: up to 500 files per batch.
  • A job that takes longer than 2 minutes is stopped so it doesn't freeze your device.
  • Processed in your browser: your files are never uploaded to a server.

Frequently asked questions

How do I find the error in my JSON?

When formatting, the warning shows the line and column of the first problem. The most common ones are trailing commas, single quotes instead of double quotes and unquoted keys.

Does minifying change the data?

No. It only removes spaces and line breaks; values, order and types stay the same.

What is sorting keys for?

To compare two files with the same keys in a different order, or to get cleaner diffs in version control. Lists keep their order.
