What Base64 encode does
Base64 encode turns text (as UTF-8) or the bytes of any file (image, PDF, font) into Base64 text, the format used to embed files in HTML, CSS, JSON or email. Get plain Base64, wrapped every 76 characters as email expects, or a data URL ready for a src attribute.
Limits
- Up to 50 files at a time, up to 50 MB each.
- With Pro: up to 500 files per batch.
- A job that takes longer than 2 minutes is stopped so it doesn't freeze your device.
- Processed in your browser: your files are never uploaded to a server.
Frequently asked questions
How big is the result?
Base64 is about 33% larger than the original file: every 3 bytes are written as 4 characters.
Does Base64 encrypt my data?
No. It is an encoding, not encryption: anyone can decode it. Don't use it to protect passwords or private information.
What is a data URL?
It is the Base64 preceded by the file type, like data:image/png;base64,…, and it can be used directly as an image src or in CSS.
