URL encode and decode
Encode text for use in a URL (%20, %C3%B1) or decode a URL back into readable text.
Processed on your device: your file never leaves your computer
What URL encode and decode does
URL encode turns spaces, accents and symbols into percent sequences (for example ñ becomes %C3%B1) so they can be used safely in links and parameters. Encode a value, which also escapes / ? & and =, or a whole URL, which keeps them. Decode mode does the opposite and can read + as a space, as in web forms.
Limits
- A job that takes longer than 1 minute is stopped so it doesn't freeze your device.
- Processed in your browser: your files are never uploaded to a server.
Frequently asked questions
What's the difference between a value and a whole URL?
For a parameter, such as search text, & = ? and / must be escaped so they don't break the URL. In a whole URL those characters have a role and are kept as they are.
Why does + become a space?
Web forms send spaces as +. Uncheck the option if + means a plus sign in your text.
What about a malformed %?
You will see a warning: a sequence like %E0%A4%A is incomplete and doesn't stand for any character.
