PDF to text
Extract the text of your PDFs into a TXT file to copy, search or reuse it, without uploading them.
Processed on your device: your file never leaves your computer
Up to 50 files, 200 MB max each.
What PDF to text does
PDF to text copies all the text in a PDF into a UTF-8 TXT file, page by page in reading order, so you can paste it into an email, search for a phrase or reuse a contract without retyping it. You can mark where each page starts and process several PDFs at once. If the PDF is a scan (images only), we tell you: that text needs optical character recognition (OCR).
Limits
- Up to 50 files at a time, up to 200 MB each.
- With Pro: files up to 1 GB and up to 500 per batch.
- A job that takes longer than 5 minutes is stopped so it doesn't freeze your device.

Frequently asked questions
Are formatting, tables or columns kept?
No. The result is plain text: words and line breaks are kept, but not fonts, colors or exact positions. Tables come out as lines of text.
Why does it say my PDF has no text?
Because it is a scanned image or a photo saved as PDF: it holds pixels, not letters. Getting that text out needs OCR.
Does it work with accents and other languages?
Yes. Text is saved as UTF-8, with accents and Chinese characters too, as long as the PDF holds them as text.
Are my PDFs uploaded?
No. Text is extracted in your browser and your files never leave your device.
