OCR scanned PDF
Turn a scanned PDF into a PDF with text you can search and copy, or extract its text, in your browser.
Processed on your device: your file never leaves your computer
Up to 50 files, 100 MB max each.
What OCR scanned PDF does
A scanned PDF is just a picture of each page: you can't search for a word or copy the text. This tool recognizes the text of each page with OCR and adds it as an invisible layer over the original page, which doesn't change: the PDF looks the same, but now you can search, select and copy. You can also get only the text as a .txt file. Pages that already have digital text are left as they are. Everything is processed on your device.
Limits
- Up to 50 files at a time, up to 100 MB each.
- With Pro: up to 500 files per batch.
- A job that takes longer than 3 minutes is stopped so it doesn't freeze your device.
- Processed in your browser: your files are never uploaded to a server.
Frequently asked questions
Does the PDF look different?
No. The original pages are kept as they are (same quality, same size); the recognized text is added on top, invisible, in the same position as the words in the image.
How many pages can it process?
Up to 100 pages and 100 MB per PDF. Each page is recognized in your browser and takes a few seconds, so a long document can take several minutes.
What about pages that already have text?
With the option checked they are left as they are, and their text goes into the .txt unchanged. Uncheck it if a page has only a little digital text (a stamp, for example) besides the scan.
Are my documents uploaded to a server?
No. The PDF is opened, read and recognized in your browser; only the OCR engine and the language model are downloaded once from our site.
