Video to GIF
Turn a part of an MP4, MOV, MKV or WebM video into an animated GIF, in your browser.
Processed on your device: your file never leaves your computer
One file, 200 MB max.
What Video to GIF does
Turn a moment of a video into an animated GIF for chats, forums, presentations or documentation. Mark the start and end with the player, choose the width (240 to 640 px) and the frames per second, and decide whether it repeats forever. Each frame gets its own 256-color palette so it looks as good as possible. Everything happens on your device: the video isn't uploaded to any server.
Limits
- One file at a time, up to 200 MB.
- With Pro: files up to 500 MB and up to 500 per batch.
- A job that takes longer than 10 minutes is stopped so it doesn't freeze your device.
- Processed in your browser: your files are never uploaded to a server.
Frequently asked questions
Why is the GIF so big?
GIF is an old format that stores each frame almost as a separate image. To make it smaller: shorten the clip, lower the width (320 px is enough for a chat) or use 5–10 frames per second.
How long can it be?
Up to 300 frames: 30 s at 10 frames per second, 20 s at 15 or 60 s at 5. If you go over, we tell you before starting.
Does it have sound?
No: the GIF format has no sound. If you need the audio, use “Trim video” and share the video.
Is there a limit?
One video at a time, up to 200 MB on the free plan (500 MB with Pro). The browser has to be able to decode the video (H.264 isn't decoded in some browsers without proprietary codecs). The picture is never enlarged.
