Compress Video

Make your MP4, MOV, MKV or WebM videos smaller by lowering their quality or resolution, in your browser.

Processed on your device: your file never leaves your computer

Up to 50 files, 200 MB max each.

What Compress Video does

Shrink videos to send them on WhatsApp or by email, upload them to a form or free up space on your phone. Choose the quality (high, medium or low) and, if you want, a lower resolution: taking a 1080p video down to 720p usually cuts the size a lot without showing on a phone screen. Vertical videos are handled too. The result comes out as MP4 (the most compatible) or WebM and we show how much smaller it got. Everything happens on your device: videos aren't uploaded to any server.

Limits

  • Up to 50 files at a time, up to 200 MB each.
  • With Pro: files up to 500 MB and up to 500 per batch.
  • A job that takes longer than 30 minutes is stopped so it doesn't freeze your device.
  • Processed in your browser: your files are never uploaded to a server.

Frequently asked questions

Which options should I choose?

For messaging, medium quality and 720p is a good balance. If it's still too big, try low quality or 480p. To keep the details, high quality and the original resolution.

Why does the size barely drop sometimes?

If the video was already heavily compressed (for example, downloaded from a social network), compressing it again saves little. Then the result says it didn't get smaller: lower the resolution to save more.

How long does it take?

Every frame is decoded and encoded again with your browser's codec: on a computer it's usually faster than the video's length; on older phones it can take longer. You can cancel at any time.

Is there a limit?

Up to 200 MB per video on the free plan (500 MB with Pro), 2 hours long and 30 minutes of processing per file. The picture is never enlarged. MP4 is made with H.264 when the browser allows it (Chrome, Edge, Safari); otherwise with VP9 or AV1.
