Password generator
Create strong random passwords with the length and characters you choose.
Processed on your device: your file never leaves your computer
Strong: 131 bits of entropy.
What Password generator does
The password generator creates random passwords with your browser's cryptographic random generator, without bias: every character is equally likely. Choose the length, whether to use upper case, lower case, numbers and symbols, and whether to avoid look-alike characters such as l, 1, O and 0. Every password includes at least one character of each chosen type, and you'll see its strength in bits of entropy.
Limits
- A job that takes longer than 1 minute is stopped so it doesn't freeze your device.
- Processed in your browser: your files are never uploaded to a server.
Frequently asked questions
How long should a password be?
At least 16 characters with letters, numbers and symbols (about 100 bits). For the master password of a password manager, 20 or more is better.
Do you store or see the passwords I generate?
No. They are generated in your browser and never sent to a server. Close the tab when you're done.
What do bits of entropy mean?
They measure how many guesses it would take: each bit doubles the number. From 80 bits on, a random password withstands brute-force attacks even offline.
