Create ZIP
Put several files in one ZIP, TAR or TAR.GZ in your browser, without uploading them to any server.
Processed on your device: your file never leaves your computer
Up to 50 files, 200 MB max each.
What Create ZIP does
Bundle several files into one to email them, upload them to a form or keep them together. Choose ZIP, the format Windows, macOS, Android and iPhone open without installing anything, or TAR and TAR.GZ, the usual ones on Linux and servers. You can choose how much to compress: photos, videos and Office documents are already compressed and are stored as they are, so no time is wasted; text, PDF and other files do get smaller.
Limits
- Up to 50 files at a time, up to 200 MB each.
- With Pro: files up to 500 MB and up to 500 per batch.
- A job that takes longer than 10 minutes is stopped so it doesn't freeze your device.
- Processed in your browser: your files are never uploaded to a server.
Frequently asked questions
Which format should I pick: ZIP, TAR or TAR.GZ?
ZIP if you're sending it to other people: any computer or phone opens it. TAR.GZ is the standard on Linux and for uploading files to a server. TAR only bundles the files without compressing them.
Why is the ZIP almost as big as my files?
Photos (JPG, PNG, WEBP), videos, audio and Office documents are already compressed inside, so compressing them again doesn't make them smaller. To make photos lighter, use “Compress image” before creating the ZIP.
Are names with accents or Chinese characters kept?
Yes. Names are stored in UTF-8, as current programs expect. If two files have the same name, the second becomes “name (1)”. Slashes in names are replaced so nothing can be written outside the folder when extracting.
Is there a size limit? Can I add a password?
Everything is built in your browser's memory, so the files can add up to 500 MB in total. Password-protected ZIPs aren't available yet: to protect a document, use “Password protect a PDF”.
