What Convert SRT, VTT, ASS and SSA subtitles does
Subtitle converter moves your files between SRT (the most compatible one: media players, TVs and YouTube), WebVTT (used by HTML5 video on web pages), ASS and SSA (Aegisub formats with styles). Timings stay exact, as do line breaks, italics, bold and underline. The text encoding is detected: an old SRT saved as Windows-1252 is read with its accents, and the result is always saved as UTF-8. Convert several files at once or paste the text.

Frequently asked questions
Is anything lost when converting ASS to SRT?
SRT and VTT have no fonts, colors or positions like ASS does. Text, timings, italics, bold and underline are kept; the rest is removed, and a note below the result tells you when that happens.
My subtitles show odd symbols instead of accented letters. Can this fix it?
Usually, yes. When a file is not valid UTF-8 it is read as Windows-1252 (common in older European and Latin American files) and the result is saved as UTF-8, which every modern player understands.
What happens to comments and styles in a VTT file?
NOTE blocks are skipped because they are not subtitles. STYLE blocks, per-cue positions and speaker names are removed when converting to another format.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. The conversion runs in your browser; your subtitles never leave your device.
